We spent the afternoon at the Fort Worth Zoo today.
Enjoying glorious fall weather,
the company of teenagers,
and lots and lots of amazing animals is a fabulous way to capture joy in any day.
There were preschoolers everywhere, wholly consumed with curiosity and wonder,
spilling out excitement with every breath.
We loved the gorgeous flamingos, cringed at all the snakes, and were incredulous at the size of the alligator.
We heard the lion roar, watched the baby elephants play with each other,
and made eyes at a huge silver backed gorilla.
We didn't see a Pushmi-pullyu, but there were plenty of amazing creatures and plenty of joy just the same!
“People from a planet without flowers
would think we must be mad with joy the whole time
to have such things about us."
- Iris Murdoch
